In Book Two of Little Wings: The Outbounders Of Segais, Madar Guirmean assembles her clan of fighters to destroy the Lost Ones. This clan consisting of gnome Sobhrag and his red-haired goat from Cocklebur, elves Hefin and Piper cousins from Ulmaria and their albatrosses, and Liath Lus water faerie from Gort.
When they arrive in Gort to collect their specially made weapons from the finest of steel in all of Segais, they are given a jewel on a necklace and told that there are two more hidden in Segais. The importance of these jewels are evident throughout the entire Book Two as the jewels do the following Three things -
1. Protect the wearer from being stung by the Lost Ones which inevitably will turn the wearer into one of them.
2. Lets the wearer see the Lost Ones. Unless you have been born a 'seer'like Madar and Vulgare were then when the folk of Segais enters the human world they cannot see the Lost Ones. Only a seer can.
3. Blinks when Lost Ones are nearby, indicating danger.
When all three jewels are found and near each other the power is strong and the clan are well protected. When the three jewels are separated even a short way, this strength continues, which means the clan has to stick together.
We meet Vulgare Majalis, faerie from Balgann in Segais only briefly in Book One, but the legend of him lives on throughout Book Two and many truths are brought to the surface.
Vulgare created these jewels using the bloodline of each sovereign in Segais - Faerie queen- Queen Ceridwen, Elf queen - Queen Azrael and Gnome king - King Ogham. The power of their ancient bloodlines is what fuels the jewels and protects Madar and her clan.
And what is all of this for? To destroy Crios the Black, the ruler and controller of all Lost Ones and who he really is will be revealed in Book Two.
