Fairies Stop Motorway Development

I was delighted to catch the documentary Prime Planet: Ireland With, hosted by adventure journalist Simon Reeve. He went into both Ireland and Northern Ireland to see how communities are doing in the last twenty years since mass religious and political conflict had plagued their everyday lives.

In general people are doing okay, not great but okay. There is still a lot of segregation between Catholics and Protestants in Northern Ireland and quite a bit of poverty. They don't seem to be getting a lot of help from outside sources either, which is always going to slow progress.

But what the Irish lack in material things, they make up for in other ways eg. humor, imagination, heart, strength, the list goes on. Which brings me to the subject of Fairies. According to a local Irishman, that Simon Reeve interviewed, many Irish people still believe in fairies. Fairies have played a massive role in their Celtic history and to this day, the modern person still believes in them. Not only that..... and this is when it starts to get delicious, Simon Reeve interviewed another man who actually stopped a motorway from being built over a bush because it contained fairies.

This man protested and campaigned against the building of this motorway and eventually won. He said the faeries live like we do in little communities, doing everyday things and like to be left alone. BUT if we(humans) were to disturb their little communities and basically piss them off, there may be human deaths.

So the bush containing the fairies still stands right next to the motorway as the developers just built it in a different spot and everyone is now happy, including the fairies.
