Saturn's Child
Q: Where does the term Saturn's Child and the name Saracen come from?
A: Saracen lives with her gran who is a practicing herbalist. She named her daughter, Saracen's mother - Tansy, also a herb and the tradition stuck as Saracen is a name of a less common herb. I practice as herbalist as well and found this herb in one of my old materia medicas and thought it suited her character well.
Saracen's gran also likes to study astrology although I haven't gone in to it too deeply in this book. According to Saracen's gran, Mary- yes she does have a name - Saracen was born with the planet Saturn in a difficult position causing digestive issues and food intolerances and inability make friends with children her own age, therefore she spends her time with animals, nature and with 'imaginary' friends. Saracen has a special gift to see what others cannot and that sometimes gets her into trouble as well.
